Today we put the 2000ml HDPE bottle under the spotlight — a workhorse format from our cleaning bottles range that pairs a versatile choice across formulas.
Why this format
The 2000ml size fits treatment, lotion or wash applications and the HDPE body keeps the formula stable through shipping and shelf life.
Customisation
Available in transparent, frosted, soft-touch or pearlescent finish, with silk-screen, hot-stamp or label decoration and a closure matched to its neck size.

Typical uses
Commonly specified for cleaning bottles programs where consistent, brandable packaging matters.

What a 2000 ml bottle is for
Two litres is a bulk format, and bulk formats sell a different promise — value, refill convenience or institutional supply:
- Refill and economy packs — one purchase topping up several smaller dispensers.
- Concentrates — where the customer dilutes, so the pack is bought less often.
- Back-of-house and institutional — decanted into working containers on site.
- Industrial and automotive — where a large volume is used in one job.
Design considerations at two litres
This is the size where ergonomics stops being a detail:
- Handle or grip. A full two-litre bottle is genuinely heavy. An integrated handle, a molded grip or a narrow waist is what makes it pourable — and it is decided in the mold, so it cannot be added later.
- Wall profile and top-load. Large filled bottles are stacked, sometimes several high. The wall profile has to resist compression, and the honest test is a filled compression test at the stacking height you actually plan.
- Pour control. A wide neck pours fast and risks spillage; a vented insert or a narrower neck with a measuring cap solves it. Choose the pour behaviour before the neck is cut.
- Balance. A bottle that is easy to pour when half full can be awkward when full. Test with the bottle filled to your declared volume, not empty.
Closures and dispensing for bulk
| Closure | Neck | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Screw cap with measuring cup | 38/400 and larger | Laundry and detergent dosed by cap |
| Vented insert | Matched to neck | Controlled pour without glugging |
| Lotion pump | 28/410 | Large dispensers for gel products |
| Tamper-evident cap | Matched to neck | Where the market or the retailer requires it |
For bulk formats the closure is often the most-touched part of the pack, so it is worth specifying one that is comfortable to open and re-close with a wet or gloved hand.
Decoration and labelling at this scale
A two-litre panel is large, which is an advantage and a discipline problem at the same time: it invites over-design. Keep the front panel to brand and one clear claim, and move dosing, warnings and languages to the back and sides.
- Large-format label — the flexible choice for household text and multi-language panels.
- Silk screen — efficient for a simple, permanent graphic; needs surface treatment on HDPE.
- Shrink sleeve — full-body coverage, best reserved for a shaped profile worth showing off.
Packing and freight
At this size, packing decisions dominate the landed cost. A two-litre bottle of liquid is heavy, so the shipment will usually weigh out before it cubes out — which means carton count and gross weight matter more than pallet footprint. Confirm:
- Carton count and gross carton weight
- Layers per pallet and whether an interlayer board is used
- Compression test at the planned stacking height
- Drop test on a packed carton before the container is loaded
Order checklist
- Formula chemistry, dilution state and pour method
- Target fill volume and closure or insert
- Handle and grip requirement
- Child-resistance or tamper-evidence requirement
- Label panel layout and language count
- Carton, pallet and gross weight specification
- First-order and re-order quantities

More questions we get asked about this size
Does a two-litre bottle need an integrated handle?
It usually benefits from one. A full two-litre bottle is heavy, and an integrated handle or a molded grip is what makes it pourable — and both are decided in the mold.
What is the usual pour-control solution?
Either a vented insert that lets air in while liquid pours out, or a narrower neck with a measuring cap. The right answer depends on whether the customer pours into a cap, a machine or a bucket.
Can this size ship by air?
It can, but the weight per unit makes air freight expensive. This is a size where sea freight is usually the sensible route unless the order is urgent and small.
Can I reuse my one-litre label artwork?
Reuse the design, not the dimensions. A two-litre panel is larger, and artwork scaled up without re-laying the type can look loose. Re-set the layout for this size.
