Reading the chemistry label before choosing a bottle
Household and industrial chemicals range from mild (soap, detergent) to aggressive (bleach, acids, strong alkalis, solvents). The bottle must match the chemistry, not the other way around. HDPE is the default for the aggressive end because it resists a wide spectrum of acids, alkalis and many solvents that would haze, stress-crack or embrittle PET.
Bleach deserves special care: it is oxidising, so the bottle, cap liner and any trigger gasket must be bleach-compatible. A bottle that holds detergent fine may not survive bleach, so always state the active ingredients in the brief.
Leak control and the label you must carry
Chemical bottles leak at three points: the cap thread, the cap liner, and the trigger or pump seal. An induction seal plus a tamper-evident cap closes the first two; a compatible gasket set closes the third. For hazardous goods, that sealing system is part of the UN-certified design and must not be changed without re-certification.
Labels on chemical products carry GHS pictograms and first-aid text by law, so the bottle’s shoulder and panel must give the label enough flat area to print legibly and stay put through a wet, corrosive shelf life.

What household formulas demand from the bottle
