When the pack size jumps to litres, the engineering changes: wall thickness, handle, stack stability and UN rating matter. This guide covers specifying bulk HDPE containers for industrial chemicals.
Bottles from our catalogue — large-volume containers for industrial fills.

Sizes and shapes
Common industrial containers are 5 L, 10 L, 20 L jerry cans and larger drums. Square profiles stack and palletise better than round.
UN and stack
For hazardous goods, choose a UN-certified can (HDPE Chemical Bottles & UN Certification) and confirm stack-load rating for palletised transport.
Closure and dispensing
Options include screw caps, tamper seals and integrated faucets for controlled pour. Specify whether users dispense by tap or decant.
Transit safety
Ribbed walls and a secure handle survive handling; discuss drop and stack testing with our team for your fill.
Compliance note: Chemical, medical and industrial fills need proven packaging. Shijin is ISO 9001:2015 certified and bottles are tested to ISTA transit standards for leak, drop and stack performance, with material and certification documents supplied on request.
When litres change the engineering
Scaling a bottle from 500 ml to a 5–20 L jerry can changes the physics, not just the size. The wall must carry a much larger hydraulic load, the handle has to support the full weight without tearing, and the stack has to hold pallets of product in a warehouse. Square or handled profiles palletise far more densely than round, which cuts freight on high-volume industrial fills.
For hazardous goods, the container must also be UN-certified at the correct packing group, and its wall thickness and closure torque are part of that certified design. A cheaper non-rated can is a false saving if the shipment is rejected at inspection.
Dispensing, sealing and transit
| Decision | Option | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Dispensing | Screw cap / tamper seal / faucet | Decant vs controlled tap pour |
| Handling | Handle + ribbed walls | Manual carry and impact |
| Stacking | Square profile | Dense palletising |
| Safety | UN certification | Hazard-class product |
Specify whether users dispense by tap or decant, confirm the stack-load rating for palletised transport, and run a drop-and-stack test against your actual fill weight before the bulk order.

What industrial formulas demand from the bottle
For industrial fills the bottle is part of the compliance and performance chain, not just a container. The body has to hold the formula without stress cracking or leaching, survive the filling line, and stay readable after months on a shelf or in a warehouse.
Across our 30+ blow-molding lines we see the same non-negotiables: a neck that seats the closure squarely, wall thickness tuned to the fill weight, and colour and decoration that survive transport and UV. A bottle that passes the bench test but fails the warehouse is not a pass.
If the formula is viscous, acidic or solvent-based, tell us at the enquiry stage. The resin choice and the lining of the closure both shift, and selecting them early is far cheaper than re-tooling after a failed stability test.
Capacities we stock for industrial
| Model | Material | Capacity | Neck |
|---|---|---|---|
| SJT0233 | PET | 233 ml | 42 mm |
| OEM/ODM 300ml HDPE Squeeze Bottle | HDPE | 300 ml | 28/410 |
| SJE0025 | PE | 500 ml | 32 mm |
| SJT0103 | PET | 103 ml | 24 mm |
These are stock shapes from our catalogue — the same tools a buyer samples first before committing to a custom mold. Capacities run from small trial sizes to bulk drums, so most industrial programmes can start from an existing mold and skip tooling lead time.
Sampling from a stock mold also de-risks the launch: you get a real, fill-tested bottle in days, validate it on your line, then scale or customise once the volume is proven.
Compliance and documentation
Every food-contact and pharma-adjacent bottle we make is produced under ISO 9001 controls, with FDA, SGS and EU 10/2011 food-contact documentation available on request. For export we supply the material certificate and, where required, UN-marked HDPE options for chemical transport.
If your market needs a specific claim (BPA-free, documented recycled content, tamper-evident), tell us at the sampling stage so we select the right resin and closure before the first run.
Sampling and first-run support
Because the tool is cut in-house, sampling lead time is typically 3–10 days from drawing to first article. We hold the first-article sample against the drawing, confirm wall and weight, and only then move to bulk.
For a new programme that means you can prove the bottle on your filling line before committing to a large order — and repeats stay consistent because the same mold and resin are used on every run.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes do industrial chemical containers come in?
Typically 5 L, 10 L, 20 L jerry cans and larger drums; square profiles stack better.
Do you make UN jerry cans?
Yes — UN-certified HDPE cans are available; confirm hazard class and packing group.
Can jerry cans have a faucet?
Yes — integrated faucets and screw caps with tamper seals are options.
How are bulk cans kept transit-safe?
Ribbed walls, secure handle and confirmed stack rating; discuss drop/stack testing.
What sizes do industrial chemical containers come in?
Common sizes are 5 L, 10 L and 20 L jerry cans, plus larger drums. Square profiles stack and palletise better than round ones.
Do I need a UN-certified jerry can?
Only if your product is classified as a dangerous good for transport. Confirm the hazard class and packing group from the safety data sheet, then specify a rated container.
