Where a squeezable PE bottle earns its place

PE is the right answer whenever the product has to come out under hand pressure. Shampoos and conditioners in the shower, lotions and gels in the bathroom, sauces and condiments in the kitchen — all of them are dispensed by squeezing, and all of them need a bottle that responds predictably when it is nearly empty.

That last point is the one customers actually complain about. A bottle that dispenses well for the first two-thirds and then fights the customer for the rest is a design failure, and it is usually a wall-thickness or venting issue rather than a resin one.

The material also buys you chemical toughness. Household and personal-care formulations that would eventually stress-crack PET are routine for PE, which is why the same bottle style shows up in both the bathroom and the utility room.

Getting wall thickness and squeeze right

Squeeze resistance is a combination of resin, wall thickness and geometry, and the only reliable way to set it is to feel samples. We normally send two or three wall weights so you can compare them with your actual product inside, because squeeze feel changes with viscosity as well as with the bottle — a thin lotion and a thick gel want different bottles at the same volume.

There is also a shipping side to the decision. A very soft bottle panels in a hot container and arrives looking damaged, which is a complaint you will field even though nothing is functionally wrong. We size the wall to your fill weight and pallet configuration rather than to a target weight alone.

Closure fit deserves more attention on a squeeze bottle than on a rigid one, because every squeeze pressurises the seal. Specify the liner, and test the assembled bottle inverted at temperature — that is how a leak actually shows up, not on a bench at room temperature.

Practicalities: colour, print, minimums

Colour is matched in-house with masterbatch and confirmed on a physical sample against your reference before mass production. On PE it is worth looking at the sample in the actual wall thickness you intend to run, because a translucent colour reads much lighter in a thin section than it does on a chip.

Printing needs surface treatment first — PE will not hold ink untreated, so we flame-treat and water-hang treat before silk screening. The result flexes with the bottle rather than cracking the first time a customer squeezes it.

With 2,000+ moulds in the library, most PE bottles can be sampled on a stock tool in about 3–10 days with no tooling charge. Minimums are 5,000 pcs for white, black and natural closures and accessories and 10,000 pcs for custom colours.

Yes, provided the surface is treated first, which is the step suppliers quoting on price tend to skip. Polyethylene has low surface energy and ink simply will not bond to it untreated. We apply flame and water-hang treatment before silk screening so the print moves with the bottle. If your artwork needs large solid areas across a very flexible panel, we may suggest a label instead — not a limitation of the process, just the more durable choice for that specific combination.

What is the minimum for a custom-coloured PE bottle?+

Custom colours start at 10,000 pcs; standard white, black and natural start at 5,000 pcs. Colour is matched in-house and confirmed on a physical sample before production begins, which is worth insisting on because a translucent colour in a thin wall section looks considerably lighter than the same formula on a colour chip. If your volume is below the custom-colour minimum, a stock bottle with a strong label or a printed logo usually gets you most of the shelf impact.
