How the programme ran

The stages below are the ones that mattered on this project. Each is a point where the buyer had something to approve or something to decide.

1. Mold search before tooling
The 2,000+ existing mold family was searched against the target capacities first. Anything that could be produced without a new cavity keeps tooling out of the unit price and shortens the timeline — so it is checked before a private mold is discussed.
2. Material decision
PETG was selected over glass for breakage resistance in transit and over standard PET for the thick-wall clarity the brand wanted. PETG brings a lower heat ceiling than PET, so the fill temperature window was agreed with the customer before tooling was cut.
3. Sampling and colour
Physical samples were issued for approval on shape, colour, finish and print position. Sampling ran 8 days. Colour was matched against an approved masterbatch sample, and a standard chip was retained for later reorders.
4. Decoration
Silk screen was run in-house, which kept the printing pass on the same schedule as molding instead of waiting on an outside print shop.
5. Closure matching
The dropper cap and the bottle were assembled and tested as one unit: thread engagement, torque and leak performance were all verified on the assembly, not on the bottle alone.
6. Packing and export
Cartons were counted and marked against the packing list, then shipped on the customer’s nominated forwarder with the export documents prepared for the destination market.

Questions this project raises

Why PETG rather than glass for a serum bottle?+

Glass gives the clearest premium look but it is heavy and it breaks in transit, which shows up as damaged-goods cost rather than as a packaging line item. PETG gives a thick-wall, glass-like clarity at a fraction of the weight, and it survives parcel handling. The trade-off is a lower heat ceiling than PET, so the fill temperature has to be agreed first.

What heat can a PETG serum bottle take?+

PETG is normally worked in a window around 70–75 °C, which is below the range standard PET takes. If your formula is filled hot, that constraint decides the material before anything else does. Send the fill temperature and the dwell time and it can be checked against the real specification.

Will a 15 ml and a 50 ml bottle look like the same product family?+

Only if the proportions are designed together. Diameter, shoulder radius and neck finish have to scale as a set, and the decoration position has to be set per size rather than reused. This is what the design stage on a multi-size range is for.

How long does sampling take on a project like this?+

Sampling on this programme ran 8 days. Sampling from an existing mold typically runs 3–10 days; where decoration has to be mounted, or where a new tool has to be cut first, the round takes longer and is scheduled separately.

Can the dropper be sourced together with the bottle?+

Yes, and on this project it was. The dropper collar and the bottle are tested as one assembly — thread engagement, torque and leak performance — so the seal is our responsibility instead of being a dispute between two suppliers if something fails.

What order quantity does a programme like this start at?+

The first order on this project was 12,000 pieces. Minimum order quantity depends on the mold and the closure: standard orders start at 5,000 pcs in white, black or natural, or 10,000 pcs for custom colours, and custom accessories follow the same rule.

Can I see the mold record for this project?+

The client-specific record is not ours to publish. What we can share with a prospective buyer is the same engineering sequence applied to your drawing: the mold search result, the sample round, the inspection gates and the test reports that travel with the shipment.

Is PETG recyclable?+

PETG is a PET-family polyester and is collected in some streams, but it is not accepted in every municipal PET stream and it is not the same resin as bottle-grade PET. If recycled content or recyclability is a requirement in your market, it is worth deciding that before the material is chosen rather than after.
